Retinal Vein Occlusion
Key points
- Central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO): sudden painless visual loss; fundus — 'stormy sunset' (widespread flame haemorrhages, cotton-wool spots, swollen disc).
- Risk factors: hypertension, diabetes, glaucoma, hyperviscosity, thrombophilia (young patients).
- Complications: macular oedema (anti-VEGF), neovascular glaucoma (rubeosis iridis).
- Branch RVO: sectoral haemorrhages; visual prognosis better.
