Meglitinides
Key points
- Meglitinides Meglitinides (e.g. repaglinide, nateglinide)
- increase pancreatic insulin secretion
- like sulfonylureas they bind to an ATP-sensitive potassium (K-ATP) channel on the cell membrane of pancreatic beta cells
- often used for patients with an erratic lifestyle
- adverse effects include weight gain and hypoglycaemia (less so than sulfonylureas)
